The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Nicosia has moved to its permanent premises and commenced operations on 1 December 2025.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka relocated to its newly secured permanent premises in Nicosia and formally commenced its operations on 01 December 2025. The inauguration was held with the blessings of religious dignitaries and the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Cyprus.
The new premises is located in a prestigious part of Nicosia, in close proximity to several other diplomatic Missions, and is equipped with ample space and facilities to provide all services efficiently.
The Most Ven. Morawaka Soratha Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Sri Lankaramaya in Nicosia, and the Most Ven. Bandarawela Ratnadhamma Thero of the Mahamevnawa Meditation Centre in Nicosia graced the occasion, chanted pirith, and delivered Anushasana, invoking blessings for the Consulate General.
The Theros also offered prayers for the flood victims and all affected people in Sri Lanka as the nation faces one of the most devastating natural disasters in its history.
In his address, Consul General Niyas highlighted the current situation in Sri Lanka and called upon the Sri Lankan community in Cyprus to stand united with the motherland and extend their support to the Government and its leadership in overcoming this unprecedented calamity. He further elaborated how the community can best support the nation, including through financial and material assistance provided via proper and recommended channels.
He also assured that the newly reopened Consulate General will serve as a home for the Sri Lankan community, emphasizing that the staff is committed to providing services to all Sri Lankans and others who may require assistance, especially during this difficult period for the nation.
The Sri Lankan community present at the event represented a diverse range of groups, including devotees’ committees of the Pansala, Asappuwa and the Catholic Church, the business community, the Ethara Api organization, Sri Lankan students association, sports and youth groups, senior Sri Lankans, and many others.
The event also featured the recognition and honouring of senior Sri Lankan expatriates who have served in Cyprus for more than three decades.
The community expressed their gratitude to the Government of Sri Lanka for its decision to reopen the Consulate General and deploy staff to serve the Sri Lankan community in Cyprus.
They also thanked the Consul General for establishing the Consulate General in a highly impressive and well-suited location.
